CREATE NEW HEALTHY HABITS USING A VIBRATING REMINDER WATCH

With our busy lifestyles, it is easy to forget daily routines, things we want to and should do, or have scheduled in our calendars.  A vibrating reminder watch can be a very helpful tool to set reminders to turn up for appointments, drink water, take medication, go to the toilet, empty the bladder, or other important matters.  Discreet notifications throughout the day can alleviate stress and anxiety around “having to remember”.

Using a vibrating watch rather than a watch with an alarm means you can be discreet and avoid drawing attention to yourself. For some, a sound alarm is easier to ignore than a vibrating alarm.

A vibrating reminder watch can be used quite successfully for people with daytime wetting and urgency problems. People with daytime wetting usually feel the urge suddenly and with little warning, thus can cause an embarrassing accident and create a fear of leakage that can be very stressful.  Timed voiding is teaching you to regain control of the bladder. By setting regular reminders to go to the toilet before you get the urge, and go even if you do not feel like the need to urinate, you can slowly start to train your bladder and learn how to hold on rather than rushing to the toilet.

Combining bladder training with pelvic floor exercise programs is important. Also consider diet and reducing things that can irritate the bladder like coffee, tea, soda, alcohol, and chocolate.  Constipation can also irritate the bladder.

It is wise to talk to a health care professional about your unique situation.  For continence problems, you can call the Continence Foundation of Australia Helpline, 1 800 33 00 66 and get free advice from a nurse continence specialist.
